DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR FOOD TECHNOLOGY
With the goal of finding ways to make foods safer, healthier and overall better for consumers, you'll examine the components of food, including structure, composition, flavor, texture, convenience and chemical composition. You'll study why and how foods deteriorate and find applications for your research. After examining a specific food or group of foods, and conferring with flavor experts, process engineers and marketing specialists, you'll determine an appropriate course of action. This may include developing a new type of packaging, changing the way the food is stored, adding or removing ingredients or using a different type of preservative. Safety and compliance to government regulations are key to you in your job activities.
